Convergence of Buddhism and Deep Ecology

As I am researching for my final paper on Deep Ecology I keep coming across this connectedness to Buddhism. According to some deep ecologist and Buddhists some of the ways they are similar are the both critique the ego-driven, environmentally unsound cultures as well as they both have the understanding that to overcome these types of cultures we must expand our senses of self, beyond that of our ego-selves. Joanna Macy states that we must expand our "green self" and must replace it with the shallow understanding of our ego-self. She explains how our "green self" is the product of "the mystical with the practical and the pragmatic transcending separateness, alienation, and fragmentation". Further investigation into this "green self" will help me fully understand what these deep ecologists are conveying.
