Environmental Education
Religions such as Islam also value a relationship between
God, nature and human beings. An article I read mentioned that the Muslims have
a doctrine that states Muslims are encouraged to conserve natural resources,
such as forests. They acknowledge that everything is created by God. However,
many of the Muslims in Indonesia are unfamiliar with forest management
practices and are not followed through at the local and state level. They have
started a “Nagari Project” where the government educates teachers, leaders, and
other people of the community of Islamic knowledge and laws regarding
environmental conservation such as deforestation. This project also began to
monitor deforestation practices to see if these goals were being achieved.
