Growing up on a farm
I grew up on a small farm in Virginia, so I have always been very close with nature and wildlife. My entire family loves animals and have a very close connection to them. We take care of the land and the animals that live on our land. I have always been very thankful for my background because it is the reason I chose to graduate with environmental biology and environmental studies degrees. Living on a farm taught me just how important caring for the land can be. Small things like leaving a nail on the ground after doing work on the roof of the barn could leave one of our horses lame for life. Things like leaving the roof of the chicken coop off could mean that our chickens could be eaten in the night time by another animal. It has given me the ability to pay close attention to the tiny things around me, and also taught me that even the smallest things can impact the environment in major detrimental ways.
