Idolizing Nature
This section of Norman Wirzba's book titled From Nature to Creation focuses on the complexity of the term nature and its distinction between the concept of creation. In my opinion, many people probably think of the two as somewhat of the same thing because we often identify the season of spring with rebirth. The separation of these two concepts is indeed difficult because according to Scripture, the world we live in is God's creation. The way that Wirzba addressed the fact that in modern industrial societies nature is viewed with an idolatrous gaze was quite enlightening. He emphasizes that now-a-days people think of nature simple as "natural resources" that are to be available for our consumption when we demand it. This was a popular class discussion last week, and was the undertone for most of the second half of the semester. It truly becomes a societal concern and demands us all to be conscious of how much advantage we are taking of our earth which was given to us by God.
