Light of Reverence

The Film “In the Light of Reverence: Protecting America’s Sacred Lands” focuses on Native Americans and their religion, and land. The film focused on three specific Native American tribes, the Lakota, Hopi, and the Wintu and each tribe is losing their sacred land. The Lakota Want to protect the “Devils Tower”, the Hopi want to protect the Hopi Land and the Woodruff Butte, and the Wintu want to protect Mount Shasta. The battles to protect their sacred land tell a story of culture clashes. The ultimate cause of the problems with the Lakota, Hopi, and Wintu is the lack of respect and incapability to reach a compromise. Across the United States, Native Americans are struggling to protect their sacred places. I believe that if we have more respect, fairer compromises, and a better understanding of their religion, then these Native American tribes will have a better chance to thrive.
