Picture Perfect Living

In class on March 19th, we discussed the difference between Arcadia and Suburbia and how the two have caused humans to need and want control of the places they live and interact. Arcadia is considered the picture perfect place to live. However it is extremely unsustainable and its always changing. Suburbia, on the other hand, is humans happy medium between the perfection of Arcadia but still has the look and feel people desire outside of cities. This appeal of living is same throughout the U.S., manicured lawns, identical houses, no uniqueness or diversity whatsoever. Although, just because the outside looks impeccable, underneath all the chemicals and control factors humans have put in place, there is havoc among the inhabitants. This way of living isn't the most sustainable way for humans or for the environment to be constructed. A lot of threats towards peoples water supply or poorly made houses can be some common problems people see living in neighborhoods. These standards of living wanes on the quality and quantity of the ecosystems in and surrounding these neighborhoods.

Being able to control where we live and how we live in these Suburbia type neighborhoods really separates us from valuing nature and the good it can bring humans and the environment. One thing that I thought of was in neighborhood type environments there is no encouragement of weeds or bugs, because everything is killed with pesticides. Humans take away from nature, but humans never really thank it or appreciate the land that is supporting the population that are continuing to grow.
