Religion and Ecology- What Is the Connection and Why Does It Matter?
In an article posted in the Oxford Handbook online, author Roger Gottlieb discusses the key points of the connection between nature and religions. He begins with stating the fact that within the past 20 years there has been a huge shift in religious morality towards nature and the environmental crisis. Gottlieb then elaborates on the main ideologies of Western monotheistic religions and how they believe that nature was God's creation and therefore his property. This contradicts other ideologies that believe God created nature, flora and fauna, for humans to utilize to our contempt. Essentially, the main difference here is the concept of conservation and these are the polar opposites on the spectrum.
