Saint Augustine’s Confessions book 1 sections 5 and 6

Section five starts to talk about confessions. Augustine asks God to give him the words to explain why God is so important to him. He does this so he can pass the message on to others. Augustine says that his soul “contains much that you will not be pleased to see.” From this quote we can see that he is open about acknowledging his sins, and because of this he says that God will absolve them. In section six Augustine talks about his childhood. He talks about how is child hood was very supported. I was wondering why this is relevant to anything, but after talking about his childhood he asks god if he had a life before his birth. He can’t remember his childhood very well but he knows he had to been alive because he “clearly wanted things. So does this mean to be alive is to want? He doesn’t stick on this point for very long and shifts to talks about time pertaining to God. His argument is that it doesn’t.
