The Struggle to Govern the Commons

Another paper I read for my Global Change class was "The Struggle to Govern the Commons". This paper discussed the issues of managing the commons. The issue of being that private consumers want what's best for them rather than what's best for everyone. Governmental regulations do help to some regard, but they aren't always adhered to or properly placed. In order to have true environmental success, accountability and communication are needed and the process should be one of learning rather than a set law.

The current climate agreement, the Paris Climate Accord, does it's best to institute such a system. With the current set up of the Paris Climate Accord, we will continue to learn. Discussion is held every five years and nations deliver information as to whether or not they've kept to their emissions goal. However, this accord currently has no enforcement, and if nations do not adhere or back out, then nothing can be done. This exact issue has been put to light by the current administration of the United States backing out of the accord. What will come of this is yet to be seen, but we can agree that it is definitely a struggle to govern the commons.
