Virtual Reality
In class on March 26th, we discussed how technology has become involved in the disconnection between humans and nature. Allowing nature and ourselves to coexist by distinguishing “natural areas” that differ from the ones we live in. The only way nature and humans act in unison is when we need something from nature, then we allow nature to come into our space. Things like video games and virtual reality set us even more apart from nature, due to the games depicting us exploring and being active in nature while sitting in front of a TV. Through virtual reality and technology, we have shifted our priorities from getting outside to finding a similar essence inside. Even when we are outside in nature, there are distractions like listening to music or constantly being on our phones.
These distractions have limited our time outside by making us focus on materialistic things. We need to value being present and appreciate the nature surrounding us more. Sometimes, I think technology has even changed people to prefer to stay indoors where there are no bugs or maybe even dangerous things to run into.
